To kick off National Truth and Reconciliation Week our Phys. Ed classes are having a unit where they are learning Indigenous games. The students are having a lot of fun. The students will also be learning about First Nations history and traditions throughout the week as we prepare for Orange Shirt Day on Thursday.
First day in the new office Mrs. Hempel! It needs a bit of decorating but it definitely looks good on you. Congratulations on your new position as principal of Ecole Good Shepherd School and we all look forward to a fabulous year with you at the helm.
Truth and Reconciliation – Students are encouraged to wear an orange T-Shirt on Thursday, September 29th to school to acknowledge and remember the impact that residential schools had and continue to have on our Indigenous populations.
A huge thank you goes out to the Okotoks RCMP who helped out patrolling one of our main intersections during last Friday’s Terry Fox Run. Much appreciated!
Fabulous weather for our annual Terry Fox Run this morning. It started off with a kickoff assembly and the students headed out from there. Everyone did amazing.
👟👟CROSS COUNTRY is fast approaching... Parents MUST sign permission forms on SCHOOL CASH ONLINE for students to be able to participate 🎉 You will see TWO forms, one for our home race on Tuesday, Sept 27th and one for St. Mary's on Thursday, Sept. 29th. Unfortunately, students will not be able to participate without these forms signed 📢📢 Thank You for your cooperation 🙌
After 25 years with Christ the Redeemer, and 17 years at Ecole Good Shepherd School, Wayne Lorenz is in his last few days before he retires. He has been an amazing teacher and principal here at Good Shepherd and we will be sad to see him go. We wish him the best in the next phase of his life.
It's amazing watching the students get ready for their big Cross Country Races next week!!! Next Tuesday, right here at ÉGSS and next Thursday at St. Mary's! Good luck to all participants!!
Our school will be having our annual Terry Fox Run and Walk this Friday! We are encouraging students to bring a toonie (or any donation) for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, September 20th, we will be having our first School Council meeting of the year. The official meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. in the library but for our September meeting we will be hosting some informal school tours beginning at 6:30. We know that with COVID a lot of parents didn't have the opportunity to see the school, so we would like to make this opportunity available for those parents who can make it. Come for the tour... stay for the meeting!
Another school picture day went off without a hitch. Lifetouch Photography always does a great job getting everything organized and the day ran as smooth as can be. Here are a few pictures of everything taking place.
The School Council Family BBQ was a huge success last night. With the great weather there was a big turnout and everyone had their fill of hamburgers, hot dogs and watermelon. We can’t thank the Knights of Columbus enough for all the work they did and the parent and student volunteers who made the evening run so smoothly. We even had our own DJ and balloon animal station which was a popular stop. It was definitely a great way to start the school year.
Just under 4 hours to go before the big School Council Family BBQ! The BBQ has arrived and has been cleaned up and tested so we are good to go. We are lucky enough to have the Knights of Columbus cooking hamburgers and hot dogs this evening and it looks like the weather should be great. Here’s hoping we have a great turn out.
Time to grab that hair gel for the boys, curling irons and hairspray for the girls - tomorrow (Thursday, September 15th) is school picture day.
Today was our first hot lunch day at Ecole Good Shepherd School. This group of parent volunteers are amazing. They put in so much work over the course of the year. So many parents say how much they appreciate this so they get at least one day off from making lunches.
Cross your fingers for nice weather! This coming Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. our School Council will be hosting a Back to School Family BBQ here at the school. This will be a great way to meet other families in the Good Shepherd Community. Hamburgers, hot dogs and watermelon will be supplied so grab a drink and join us here in the gym. We are looking forward to a great turn out.
We invite everyone to join us this Thursday for our beginning of the year mass at St. James Parish beginning at 10:00 a.m. As this will require busing, please remember to login to your school cash online account and sign your childs permission form so that can attend. If you run into any problems please contact Desiree Chimera here at the school. This is also the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary so we are encouraging everyone to wear blue on Thursday.
First bus of the year has rolled into the parking lot! Seeing all the kids coming out with big smiles on their faces, all excited to get started totally validates why we all chose to be teachers. This is going to be a amazing year!
