An absolutely beautiful afternoon for our first Grade 5-6 rugby practice. We know that as more permission forms are filled out online we will have even more people next week.

It’s federal Election Day and our grade six classes are participating in Student Vote. It will be interesting to see how closely their results mirror what is happening nationally.

Yesterday was our last hot lunch of the year. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers who have been so giving of their time this year to help make this year as normal as possible. It was great that we could continue having a hot lunch program - we just had to make a few adjustment to make everything COVID safe. Our volunteers this year definitely went above and beyond.

The grade 6s had their grad ceremony today as well! We sure are going to miss these kids! We wish them all the best.

We had our annual year end awards and mass via Zoom today. We celebrated our amazing students for Good Shepherd Lives in Me awards, Wade Kientz and Michael Paul awards, citizenship awards, and the sacraments.

We had two more groups down in the valley yesterday on walking field trips. Our kindergarten classes had a fabulous morning exploring and ended up walking over 8 km - wow! Our grade three French Immersion classes were exploring for their rocks and minerals wrap up and had a great picnic.

Here are the pictures from Gunk the Teacher Fundraiser that happened yesterday! What a way to end the year! Special thanks goes to Abby, Ashton, Bukhosi, Levi, and Tyler for organizing and spearheading this whole event and fundraiser. They put in hours of work organizing and setting up the fundraiser, writing and doing announcements to pump up the event, putting on school wide challenges, making videos, writing the scripts for the event, setting up and getting ready for the event, and so much more. You are true leaders and difference makers and we are honored to have you lead EGSS! And yes....the slime was epic! Stay tuned for videos!

Our French Immersion kindergarten class is having their year end hike down in the Sheep River Valley. It looks like they are having an amazing morning.

The final numbers are in for Gunk the Teacher and we cannot thank you enough for your support. The grand total was: $5837.35!!! On behalf of the student leadership team, we just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you! Now....for the teachers who have been chosen to be slimed... The top fundraising class was: Grade 5 Danielle Boudreau raising $930.00 and they chose....Ms. Hempel😳 (I thought I was exempt from this...) The second place class was Grade 5 Lynne Morrison raising $770.00 and they chose Mr. Lavery to get gunked! The third place class was Grade 6 Danielle MacWhirter raising $670.00 and they chose Mr. Bassett to be sentenced to slime! The whole school also got to vote for an overall winner and we ended up with two overall winners to be slimed...Mr. Prescott and Mr. Kommes! They will get extra special slime! Once again, we are so thankful for our EGSS family. All the money will go to Cancer Research in honor of Tammy Szilagyi and we will also purchase a table for outdoor kindergarten learning in honor of our Cochlin family. God bless!

So sorry but we had a little blip with our online system for donating to Gunk the Teacher but it is back up and running now! We have also extended the fundraiser to one more day. We are collecting donations until midnight tomorrow, June 15. Thanks for your understanding!

A huge thank you to our School Council and all our parent for going above and beyond during Teacher Appreciation Week. Teachers were thrilled with all the flowers and homemade cards they received. They also loved the treat bags put together by our School Council group.

Mrs. Lynne Morrison is our recipient of the Master Teacher Award! Mrs. Morrison is truly a Master Teacher. She is a very loving educator that cares for all of her students and treats each one as a child of God. Lynne conducts her class with energy, enthusiasm and encourages each child to set goals for themselves. With humor and expertise, she nudges them towards success. She uses a variety of strategies in her class and is knowledgeable with innovative approaches. She is a master at conferencing with her students and puts them in the driver's seat to show proof and evidence of their learning in order to deepen their thinking and learning. She is very in-tune to all the needs of her students which includes not only academic needs but social-emotional needs as well. She is an expert at tiered instruction. She welcomes all students with open arms no matter what. She embraces the needs of all students with so much love and compassion and learns alongside her students as well. The students thrive with Lynne and there is always a feeling of rejuvenation and energy from the kids in her room because they are so excited about their learning from their teacher. She is always collaborating with her co-workers to inspire them and to find new approaches or strategies. We all consider Mrs. Morrison a mentor!

Mrs. Gail Wetmore is our recipient of the Power of One Award this year! Gail is an amazing person to work with. She is always cheerful, always willing to do whatever it takes, and so very hard working. She never stops! What doesn't Gail do for our school (especially this year) and with so many extra responsibilities thrown upon her! Gail is always the first to arrive every morning and begins her day before all of us. When she is not seen helping our students get to school safely early in the morning by sprinkling salt on the sidewalks, Gail is always walking the halls with a cloth in her hands, wiping down and sanitizing everything. She does this all while taking the time to build relationships with the students and staff! She even participates in our group halloween costumes each year. Gail always checks in with people and asks how they are doing or how their families are, has a pleasant story, and the most positive attitude. We honestly do not know what we would do without her! Gail takes such a pride in our school and how it is kept and she makes sure it is well taken care of along with the people in it. Every Thanksgiving, Gail and her team always cook a huge turkey dinner for the entire staff. That is the kind of person she is, one who always goes above and beyond for others. The students know Gail and are always excited to see her too. She is one of our rocks in our community and her strength and perseverance, in spite of all of the new protocols, to ensure we are all safe does not go unnoticed. Thank you Gail for your hard work, resiliency, your calm, your dependability, your kindness, and your friendship!
