After spending 28 days in their eggs and growing like weeds over the last week, today we will be saying good-bye to our honorary grade three French Immersion students. Tomorrow Madame Riley will be taking the ducklings to the farm to be reunited with all their brothers and sisters. We were 20 that hatched in the incubator last Friday and Saturday. They definitely brought a real world perspective to the grade three science unit on animal life cycles. #egssgrade3
The ducklings in Madame Riley’s class have really brightened the school atmosphere this week and brought us all a lot of joy. Mr. Thrift was even in this week and a few thought he missed his calling as “The Duck Whisperer”.
Here are some pictures of Al Gerritsen’s artwork throughout the school. #egssfaith
One of the things Good Shepherd is most well known for is the religious woodwork throughout the school. It was all created by Al Gerritsen, a Calgary artist, well known for his artwork throughout Christ the Redeemer and Calgary Catholic schools as well as churches within the diocese. We are sad to announce the passing of Al this week after a long battle with skin cancer. We have attached just a fraction of the artwork we have displayed throughout the building. #egssfaith https://calgarycrematorium.com/tribute/details/3001/Albert-Al-GERRITSEN/obituary.html
We have a new Even If You Miss podcast episode out now! Luc and Hudson are interviewing author, Caitlin Bangsund (also mom to Macey, Hudson, and Sawyer from our school)! In this interview, she inspires us with Macey's and the family's story of childhood illness and how to find hope in the obstacles life throws our way. She also teaches us all about what it is like to be an author. You do not want to miss this one! A special thank you to Caitlin for taking the time to do this interview with us! You can find her new book, Marvellous Macey, The Delightful Days, at her website, caitlinbangsund.com or on Amazon. We are now celebrating the Easter season, the 50 days between Easter Sunday and Pentecost. This is when we truly celebrate the risen Christ. One of the ways we are showing our joy is by decorating our foyer. #egssfaith
Today our grade 5s and 2s led us in the Stations of the Cross to begin the Easter Tridium. We hope everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable Easter holidays. Hopefully we can all recharge our physical, emotional and spiritual batteries and return invigorated for the push to the end of the year!
New podcast out!! This one is all about growing seed ideas into published writing pieces. Join Mia, Mackendra, and Maeve as they explore how to set up a writer's notebook and unpack their ideas to become authors who are bajillionaires! https://evenifyoumiss.blubrry.net/2021/03/23/even-if-you-miss-season-2-episode-19-growing-a-seed-idea/
Just a reminder that with Parent-Teacher Interviews happening today (Thursday, March 25th) there will be no school tomorrow for students. Have a great long weekend with your families!
Our podcasters are back with a very green (or is it blue...) episode to celebrate St. Patrick's Day! Ryan and Joey are taking us on a journey through what St. Patrick's day is all about. They even interviewed some experts on leprechauns from kindergarten and grade 1! You do not want to miss this one! PS (did you know that leprechauns have bad breath??? Who knew?) Check it out at this link or on Apple Podcasts or Spotify and don't forget to leave us a review! https://evenifyoumiss.blubrry.net/2021/03/15/even-if-you-miss-season-2-episode-18-the-thing-about-leprechauns/
As a part of Carnaval we are having a door decorating contest throughout the school. It definitely helps build the spirit of Carnaval throughout the building. Feel free to like an individual image to get your vote in.
Today we are even being entertained with some live French music for Carnaval.
Carnaval Week is always a highlight of our school calendar! Students today have been treated to hot chocolate and are learning new French dances and playing the spoons in music class.
We are having a great start to our Carnaval Week here at Good Shepherd. As a wrap up on Friday we will be having a Food Truck on site starting at 1:00 p.m. Come on by and have some great varieties of poutine from The Bear Balls Food Truck. Check out their menu online as they have a lot to offer.

Just another reminder that tomorrow is #PinkShirtDay2021. We hope all EGSS kiddos will join in. 💖
Traditionally, our grade fives would be heading to the Saddledome to watch the Calgary Hitman #endbullying hockey game, but this year we are going virtual! The students will listen to messages from local celebrities and their experience with bullying. Students will gain the confidence to stand up and make a difference to end bullying. Let’s have all our students wear pink this Wednesday in support of anti-bullying. #egsssafeandcaring
