Our grade 2 classes spent a little time this morning getting ready for their Stations of the Cross Liturgy next week. Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday this weekend. Our grade twos will lead our division one liturgy on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. and our grade fives will lead our division two liturgy on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. Both liturgies will take place in the gymnasium.
Father Troy visited the grade ones to discuss Easter and to answer questions related to: Why it is called Good Friday – when it doesn’t seem like a good day? Why people didn’t like Jesus - when he seemed like a good guy? And… why did Jesus have to die anyway??? Father Troy welcomed the kids to ask questions about Jesus. It was an absolutely wonderful time to be able to spend with Father Troy and learn from his expertise.
This morning, some of our grade five and six students took part in a national math contest called Mathematica Centrum. They really buckled down and concentrated. Hopefully the hard work they have put in practicing over the last month will really help. We will get the results back in early June, so stay tuned!
A busy day at Good Shepherd today as our grade sixes held a basketball tournament in the gym. There were three courts playing at a time and games went straight from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The students showed some great sportsmanship and really had a lot of fun.
It is Poisson D'Avril in Kindergarten! Here are Mme Riley's kindy kids from Friday. For April Fools, she played a trick on them to have a « flood drill ». They all took off their shoes and socks, rolled up their pants, and stood on their chairs!! They thought it was so funny that she got them with her prank!
EGSS offers Nature Kindergarten in both french immersion and english programs and our kiddos love learning outside. Here are some photos from last week from Mme Riley's and Mme Killam’s class. They were learning about looking after the earth - cleaning garbage, having nature noticings, writing our names with pine cones! In our Nature Kindergarten program, we do all sorts of learning of the curriculum using nature as our classroom.
We had our first school assembly where parents were able to attend yesterday afternoon and it was great to see so many smiling faces. The grade fours shared two of the amazing things happening in their rooms right now - a dinosaur scavenger hunt and their grade 4 book battle.
This week in Phys. Ed. the school is participating in a skipping challenge called Jump Rope Ninja. As they complete goals they are able to progress from a white belt all the way up to a black belt. Students are really motivated to improve and are having a lot of fun with it.
As a part of their Social Studies curriculum, the grade 4s this week are learning about Alberta’s fossil history. The teachers set it up as a scavenger hunt and the kids are having a blast.
On Thursday, March 24th from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. we will he having our second round of Parent-Teacher Interviews. These will take place both in person and online. The crowd also had an amazing time at the game today!
After having to miss a year due to COVID, the grade 6s were thrilled today to have the opportunity to take part in the annual staff-student hockey game. It was a lot of fun for everyone and ended up being a close game in the end.
Grade 4 Book Battle is happening right now! These readers are powering through books and caught in a reading frenzy!
A few more pictures from recess this morning.
On the first full day of spring students were soaking up the sunshine out at recess this morning. It should be another beautiful week!
Just as a reminder on this International Day for the Elimination of Racism and Discrimination, we will be having student sessions throughout the day today led by Aubrey Noronha aimed at division one and two and this evening we will also be having a session for our parent population. We have already had Aubrey discuss this important message with some of our students earlier this year and he did an amazing job. The parent session will take place at 7:00 p.m. this evening and the Zoom link is below, https://redeemer.zoom.us/j/86166466644
We have a piano in our foyer for students and adults to play. This past week we were entertained by our very own Hayden!
We were lucky enough to have Ms. Gruber and almost 40 Holy Trinity band students helping our grade sizes this afternoon. They all broke into instrument groups and had high school students helping them improve. #egssgrade6
This afternoon our kindergarten through grade two teachers are learning all about nature based education and how it is being implemented in our kindergarten rooms this year. It makes for a great Friday Catholic Learning Community learning opportunity for our teachers.
